Phase Two!

Black dye is washed out, and purple dye is on.
I should have let the black process a little longer (I left it on for 1 and 10 minutes)
It came out a dark black-ish brown, but I really wanted black.
However, the purple will probably show up better now. I'll do plain black another time (:

This is the black I used.
Actually Manic Panic is the ONLY dye I like to use. I use others, obviously, because they don't make every color. But I truly feel that their dye is the best. The pigments are strong and bright, and the dye lasts longer than most. Plus, it's not a harsh dye so you can let it process for longer than the necessary time- in fact, its actually recomended that you do. I usually sleep with the dye in.

I have the Manic Panic Purple Haze on right now, processing.

I just use basic tools: mixing bowl, tint brush, vinyl gloves, and a shower cap.

I'll post a picture of the finished product tomorrow! <3

My New Hair Is Under Way!

I got my hair cut today (:
I chopped it all off. It's the first time in a loooong time I've had it short. And, actually, this is the shortest I've had it since I was a little kid.

I wanted an angled bob, but longer.
Like this, but I wanted it thicker in front:

In reality, though, my hairdresser is a family friend (so naturally I can never ever get my hair cut anywhere else in my entire life -__-) who constantly ignores what I want. She claimed my "layers were too short up front to leave the front long". Whiiiichh...is crap. I see what she was saying, but it was do-able. But anyways, she cut my hair and it ended up coming out really short and not as dramatically angled as I wanted. BUT. I think it looks cute. I was going for a dramatic change, and thats what I got.

                                 BEFORE:                                                                              AFTER:

I had a meltdown in my car driving home, tears and all. I felt that I looked like a boy, and I just kept picturing my hair as I saw it in my head, the way I wished it had turned out. And it was a bummer. Not to mention my mother was being horribly insensitive. "Its just hair, Gabrielle" (yes, she even full named me).  Yes, it is just hair. It grows back. But my hair is really important to me, and I don't care if that sounds silly to someone. I work hard to maintain my hair, to keep it healthy, and to always keep it interesting and how I WANT IT. I view my hair as just another form of self expression. So when it didn't go as planned, naturally I freaked out...not to mention I miiiiiiight be a smidge OCD...

NEVERTHELESS, I really do like the cut. I think it's cute, and something new. I've never had a cut like this and I think it will also grow in well. I was already planning on buying a set of extensions anyways, so I'll go ahead with that plan. Now I can have the best of both worlds: a cute short cut, and a nice 18" look. (:

I'm also in the process of dying my hair. Like...as I'm typing this, I have the dye in and a cap on, lol. I'm dying it black, and then putting a coat of dark purple over it. Hopefully the purple will show through and it'll add a nice subtle highlight.

Pictures and updates on the dying coming soon <3

Hair Color Timeline ~

I thought it'd be a cute idea to give you guys a little background. Show you just a sample of the colors I've had in the past.

***Keep in mind, these are just a few. I've had an insane amount of colors in my hair, whether it be a full head color, streaks, highlights, or whatever. These are just the photos I can find, seeing as I've gone through crashed computers.***

SO. This is me, many moons ago. Before I started dying my hair at all. I think I was 12 here. By the time I started dying my hair, my hair had grown a lot longer than this.

One of the first times I dyed my hair. To show off my new color, I also got a new hair style! The suns hitting my hair through a window here, making the color look lighter. It was darker than this. I immediately gravitated to dark colors, to rebel against my naturally light hair.

Light brown with highlights. I started to realize that I didn't have to write off light colors just because I was born with light hair. I could spice up my look with different shades and tones.

First time I EVER dyed my hair red. As most people who know me will tell you, once I went red I tended to gravitate to that color. I love red, in all shades.

As the red faded, it turned to a brown color. It was sort of carmal with hints of red in it still.

BUT WAIT. The brown didn't last long. A creature of habit, I went back to being a redhead.

Oh, God. The braces. D: Ignore them!
Anyways, you can see that although I repeated a red color, this time I chose one with ALOT more orange tones.

The orange begins to fade.

And it faded!!!! Luckily, it was a nice shade of light orange. I actually like it.

Next came a brown.

Here's the previous brown faded.
Let's not comment on the face XD

I decided to dye my hair dark again...but not before I dyed it red once more ;D

And here it is dark. With purple :)

This was my summer at my Grandma's house in Puerto Rico (yes, I'm Puerto Rican). My hair already started to fade because of the salt water.
[oh, and thats not beer. It's Matta, a nonalcoholic beverage]

Oh look, it all faded. Thanks, salt water.
You can see black, brown, blonde, and purple. Interesting.

I let the color all fade out and went for a natural blonde with dark brown look.

This is my most recent dye job to date. In this picture it's faded a bit. At first it was a more purple/red, here it's faded to mostly just red.

Okay, so that's all the pictures I have! That was just a glimpse of my coloring from the past, but I feel like I'm just putting a ridiculous amount of pictures now. x)

This Thursday, I'm chopping my hair off into an angled bob, and dying it black with very light purple highlights over it. Pictures will be up, asap of course!

Ello ~

Hi, my name is Brie and I'm a dye-oholic. (:

I decided to make this blog because I adore coloring my hair; nothing is more refreshing to me than a fresh dye job. It's a completely therapeutic process, and another way I am able to express myself (which I love doing!). Not to mention, one of my best friends, Lulu, is completely obsessed with blogging. I guess I've caught the blogging bug, and so here I am.

So, really quickly, here's a background on the name of my blog. Dye-Hard is meant to reflect my personal style choices. I have a more, uh, hard sense of style. I tend to lean towards Gothic fashion, with flares of Punk and Lolita influences. I take fashion, makeup, hair, and my apperance in general seriously. My clothing choices are meant to reflect my personality, just as my hair dying does.

This blog will follow all my journeys in hair dying, including but not limited to the successes and failures. Expect to see the process, not just the finished product. Along the way I'll share my tips and tricks, and will eventually take requests on what color to dye my hair next. I'll probably give some reviews of products I try out, as well.

Hope you enjoy.
